A SCHEME which encourages people to jog in Derbyshire received a £197,544 boost from the Big Lottery Fund.
The cash will enable Jog Derbyshire to expand its fitness programme which has 65 active groups with 1,800 members who meet and jog a number of times per week. The project will focus on engaging 200 new volunteer jog leaders reaching out to areas of Derbyshire which currently do not have a jog group and hopes to reach people who are over 45 and currently not taking any form of exercise and more likely to be at risk of obesity, ill health and susceptible to chronic disease.
Margaret Blount, deputy director of Derbyshire Sport, said: “Jog Derbyshire has been a really successful project which has changed people’s lives. For some participants they can now jog 5k but for others the change has been far more significant.”
