Luncheon club get a tour through the NHS

Matlock Luncheon Club speaker Robert Raftery, a retired organ transplant surgeon, soon had the 103 ladies laughing at the February meeting.

In 1952 charges were introduced, a one shilling charge for a prescription also a £1 for a visit to a dentist. When Robert qualified as a houseman in 1969, his salary was just £650. His humorous reciting of how each medical department reacted to current white papers left members laughing.
