Emergency services were called to the motorway just before 9am after reports of the collision on the Northbound carriageway between J26 and J27.

Firefighters from Ashfield, Highfields and Stockhill attended and cut the man from the car to make space for the ambulance service to get him out safely.

A police spokesman said the man has gone into hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

One lane of the motorway remains closed on the Northbound carriageway.

Expect delays.
