M1 reopened after lorries crash near Chesterfield

Bank holiday travellers will be glad to hear the M1 in Derbyshire has been fully reopened after a collision involving two lorries caused big delays.

Part of the southbound carriageway needed resurfacing due to fire damage caused by the collision at 2.10am, on Saturday, May 23.

A stretch of the motorway between junctions 29a and 29 was closed in both directions while the road was cleared with the northbound carriageway reopened at about 6.50am, on Saturday.

The southbound carriageway remained closed until about 12.40pm, Saturday, as emergency services cleared wreckage and made the area safe.

Motorists had to follow a temporary diversion which had caused delays for many during a busy bank holiday Saturday.
