Magical new classroom

PUPILS at one Dales school are celebrating the completion of a magical new place where they can get away from the hustle-and-bustle of the day.

Thanks to social accommodation provider Dales Housing, children at Wirksworth Junior School now have a calming and sensory room where they can go to relax, or work through any issues they may have.

The ‘magic’ room, as it has been named by the school, is already proving a big hit with the children owing to its use of light, sound, smell and touch.

To achieve the desired effect, the room is equipped with bubble tubes, soft floor cushions, colour cycling LED lighting and a mirror ball.

Head teacher Lesley Grover said: “This is a magical new edition to our school and is already proving a big hit with the children. I’d like to say a huge thanks to Dales Housing.”

Class Teacher Sarah Robson added: “The difference this makes with the children is remarkable. Their confidence, self-esteem, ability to work with others all increases.”

Donations towards the room’s equipment were also made by Peak House Practice, Tarmac and TDP Ltd.
