ASSURANCES over congestion and safety have been issued by Severn Trent officials – as the company plans a £30million renewal of Ambergate reservoir.
The 100-year-old reservoir supplies water to 600,000 homes in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.
But owners Severn Trent say the underground concrete structure is in poor condition and needs replacing to safeguard the area’s water supply for the next 30 years.
The project would see a new 90 megalitre reservoir built to the west of the current one in Ambergate by 2014.
Sever Trent Water is holding a series of consultations throughout the area, and say during construction they will minimise lorry movements as much as possible.
