A man was rescued and taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a serious house fire in Middleton by Wirksworth.

Fire crews from Matlock and Belper spent more than five hours at the semi-detached property in Water Lane putting out the blaze and damping down.

The fire broke out at about 3.30pm and was out by 10pm. Firefighters stayed and were taking down the roof.

A fire spokesman said the house was “fully consumed” by flames when the crews and an ambulance arrived. He said there were no suspicious circumstances.
