Staff and students at Lady Manners School have been preparing for the Olympics with a year-long series of events designed to unite neighbouring primary schools.

The build-up started in July 2011 when primary schools joined the Design and Technology department to build an Olympic Torch.

Each school chose a torch-bearer and a sporting method by which to deliver the torch to the next school on the route.

The ensuing Olympic week included a visit to the Lady Manners food technology department to make sports energy bars.

Students also designed logos and composed an Olympic anthem with help from the Lady Manners music department.

The year will conclude with a Primary School Olympic Games at Lady Manners School in July.

Jayne Roach, sports teacher, said: “The benefits of this programme, coupled with the commitment of the primary school teachers, is clear to see.“
