Matlock festive late night shopping

Dales shoppers have a chance to buy their Christmas gifts locally – without having to battle the weekend high street frenzy.

A late night shopping event will be held in Matlock on Thursday, during which shops in the town centre will be staying open until 7pm to allow people to drop in after work.

The event is being run in conjunction with Matlock Town Team, Derbyshire Dales District Council, Matlock Town Council and Derbyshire County Council.

There will be added festive cheer with a Christingle service in Crown Square at 5pm.

The Christmas tree lights will be switched on and youngsters will also have the chance to meet Santa Claus himself a tell him in person what presents they would like to open on Christmas Day.

The following weekend the Victorian Christmas Market will be held in Hall Leys Park.

From December 5 to 7, there will be a vast variety of stalls selling gifts and food for all to enjoy.

On Saturday, December 6, Santa Claus will parade through the town on horse–drawn carriage and the Christmas lights will be switched on.
