A global fast food giant wants to put a ten metre high illuminated sign in front of a proposed new restaurant in Matlock.

Last month, McDonalds submitted a planning application for a drive–thru restaurant on the site of the former Madison’s bar, off Bakewell Road.

Now the firm is applying for permission from Derbyshire Dales District Council to put a drive–thru McDonalds sign outside of the proposed premises.

The proposed sign – application reference 14/00309/ADV – is ten metres high, including an illuminated advertisement bearing the McDonalds logo, which measures three metres by three metres.

Another application has been put in for a five–metre high sign, including a non-illuminated advertisement measuring 1.4 metres by 1.4 metres. Application reference 14/00308/ADV.

A final application for 24 advertisements, reference 14/00307/ADV, includes a high restricting drive–thru gateway sign, 11 freestanding signs and 12 informative signs.
