MATLOCK: Police to clamp down on parking problems in town streets

Officers decided to clamp down on the issue after members of the public raised it at the team’s governance meeting on August 14.

The main area of concern is Chesterfield Road, where motorists have been reported for parking on a stretch of road where there is a double white line in the middle.

It is an offence to park adjacent to a double white line and doing so can cause an obstruction and put other road users at risk.

Police will be patrolling the area and offering words of advice to drivers, as well as issuing fixed penalty notices to motorists caught parking in areas where it is against the law.

Sergeant Adam Bryan, from Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The rules are there for a reason and people ignoring them and parking where their vehicle is a hazard and could cause injury isn’t acceptable.

“The double white line has been put in to reduce the risk of accidents and we will be making sure that people don’t ignore it.

“We’ll be taking steps to make sure people are aware of the law and, where we need to, taking action against any offenders.”

Speeding was also identified as a problem and will be tackled with the team carrying out speed checks and issuing warning letters and further action against drivers breaking the limit.
