Matlock school raises cash for books

Book-smart kids at one Matlock school are celebrating after raising an incredible £1600 to spend on books.

In the past 12 weeks, staff and pupils at St. Giles School, in Matlock, raised the cash through a number of events, including: an afternoon tea with entertainment provided by the Juniors, which raised £160; the vast majority from a sponsored book read, completed by 60 of the children throughout the school; and the commission from a Book Fair courtesy of Nicola Stafford from Us borne Books.

Literacy Co-ordinator Helen Rogers said: “I am overwhelmed at the amount the children, from the oldest right down to the youngest, have raised and cannot thank them and their parents enough for the support they have shown.”

The books have arrived in school and the children are busy working their way through them.
