Matlock teenager admits striking police officer

A teenager pleaded guilty to resisting arrest after he struck a police woman on the arm as she tried to restrain him.

Simran Singh, 18, of Lime Grove Walk, Matlock, appeared at Chesterfield Magistrates on August 20, accused of the offence on June 13. He had been taken to Matlock police station to be cautioned for possession of cannabis. He was told he would be searched and got angry.

Prosecuting, Gillian Foxcroft, said: “It was the search that caused him to lose his temper. PC Foxon said he flicked his left wrist back which connected to her right arm. He was swearing and shouting ‘get off me’.”

She said PC Foxon felt a sharp pain and was left with bruising. Singh was given a nine–month conditional discharge.
