Items that can be donated include any kind of dried or tinned foods such as milk (UHT or powdered), sugar, fruit juice (carton), soup, pasta sauces, sponge puddings (tinned), custard (packet or tinned), tinned fruit or vegetables, cereals, tinned meat or fish, jam, snacks or biscuits, instant mashed potato, pastas and rice.

Councillors voted unanimously to set up a collection point at their meeting on Monday.

Councillor David Barker, the Mayor of Matlock, said: “Matlock Town Council are pleased to be able to support this important project which is, unfortunately, a necessity for a growing number of local families.

“During the lead up to Christmas I hope everyone who can donate even one item to the foodbank each week will do so, it will make a huge difference to this very valuable work carried out by dedicated volunteers.”
