The body of a 51-year-old man was discovered at a disused quarry in Wirksworth.
Sixteen members of Derby Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Sunday afternoon to search for a man from the Kent region, who had been missing for a week.
Police received information that he might be in the area of Middle Peak Quarry and called on the team’s specialised skills to search the 66 acre site.
Team members, four search dogs and a police helicopter carried out an extensive search of the area.
The man’s body was found on a ledge at one of the highest points in the quarry and was recovered by a rope rescue system.
A police spokeswoman said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
