Bolsover District Council selected Morrisons as its preferred bidder to buy its Sherwood Lodge office site, on Oxcroft Lane, and it moved to the Arc, on High Street, Clowne, as part of regeneration, efficiency and cost-saving plans.

A council spokesman said: “We’re in discussion with Morrisons and Derbyshire County Council who will be looking into highway changes to finalise contracts and matters are moving towards completion.

“The development will help increase footfall of shoppers into the town, support the economy and help create jobs.”

Bolsover District Council hopes the development will create about 200 jobs and training opportunities, and complement and support the town’s existing businesses by attracting new businesses and visitors.

The council is eager to bring the development to the town to ensure local shoppers stay in the region instead of shopping outside of Bolsover.

The 20,000sq ft development will include a medium-sized food store, car parking and a petrol station.

Council regeneration plans also include a £2m council, community centre, on Cotton Street, in the town, to continue to provide a local point of contact for Bolsover residents.

The council held a series of exhibitions and public consultations during the Morrisons’ planning process to consider residents’ views before approving the supermarket giant’s planning application in November, 2012.

Morrisons has stated that it was delighted to have been selected for this scheme which it believes will benefit the town with new jobs to be aimed at a local workforce.
