Derbyshire police said: "We were called at around 7pm to smooth traffic after the incident. The bike was in flames and the car was in flames as well. The fire service attended and highways were also called because the road was damaged due to fire.

"The motorcyclist was taken initially to Stepping Hill, and then to Salford Royal Hospital. He suffered a broken pelvis and various other broken bones but his injuries are not deemed life threatening."

Fire crews left the scene at around 9pm, and police said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said after Highways officers were called to the scene: “We cleared the road of debris and no damage was found to the road surface.”
