New bench along canal

Stunned onlookers watched in disbelief as master craftsmen Trevor Wragg and Gordon Walton built a beautiful dry stone bench along the banks of the Chesterfield canal.

The pair, who work at Wirksworth’s Eco Centre, built the bench during the Tapton Celebration Weekend event on September 20 and 21, under the gaze of the visiting public.

Both Trevor and Gordon work at the Eco Centre near Wirksworth and volunteered their time; we were very lucky to have them as their skills are in demand internationally! The sandstone was kindly donated by Bretton Moor Quarry in Eyam Hope Valley and the finished bench is a fantastic legacy of a very successful event.

The event organisers, Junction Arts and the Derbyshire Countryside Service would like to pass on our wholehearted thanks to everyone involved.
