New flood alerts issued for Derbyshire this morning - including Chesterfield, Belper, Matlock, Ilkeston and Staveley

There are currently 13 flood warnings – meaning flooding is expected – for the Derbyshire area, with a further 18 flood alerts in place – meaning flooding is possible.

In Chesterfield, which is still recovering from extensive flooding over the weekend, the flood alert area includes River Rother from Chesterfield to Staveley, including the Rivers Hipper, Drone and Whitting.

Flood alerts have also been issued for Eckington, Matlock, Belper and areas of Ilkeston – although the EA says that today’s forecast is a “shorter, much less intense period of rainfall than last weekend so we do not expect the river level rise to bring significant impacts.”

Flood warnings are confined to the south of the county, with areas where flooding is expecting incluing Swarkestone, Cavendish Bridge, Repton and Ingleby.

The EA has added:”Please avoid contact with flood water, avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and contact your insurance company if you've been flooded.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and patrolling watercourses in the area.”
