Nicola Vallance is on a mission to deliver the best customer service to shoppers in Matlock.
Nicola is the store manager at the town’s new Marks and Spencer foodhall which is set for its grand unveiling next week.
The retail giant’s new store, which will be situated in the former Co-operative premises at Crown Square on Bakewell Road, will officially open its doors on Wednesday, May 4 at 10am.
And Nicola, who is originally from Mansfield, can’t wait to get started.
Days before the big launch, she told the Mercury: “It’s all progressing very nicely.
“We get access to the building this Friday and we have a large number of staff ready to bed in.
“We’ll be celebrating by meeting our customers on the open day.
“We want to deliver the best customer service possible to the people of Matlock.
“We will be offering the very best of M&S’s high quality, award-winning products.
“There will be a coffee shop service for people to enjoy in or take out.
“The team is fabulous and we’ve got 60 staff in total.
“A large number of those have been employed locally.
“Around 25 or so are employed from the former Co-op and we’ve been able to recruit a large number from the area too.
“Giving local people jobs is absolutely brilliant.
“A lot are within walking distance too.”
It has taken an estimated 1,000 hours to get all the stores’ innovative products onto the shelves in time for opening, with over 100 people on site putting the finishing touches before Wednesday’s opening.
Nicola, aged 33, graduated from University before moving onto the M&S Graduate Scheme in 2005.
She has since gone on to work at various stores, including Crystal Peaks in Sheffield, before landing her current role at the helm of the exciting new arrival in Matlock.
And it is an opportunity that she is relishing.
She added: “Matlock is such a beautiful place and I’m familiar with the area.
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity.”
