Ashover is on a Royal flush following the selection of this year’s May King and Queen.
The new Royals, who both attend Ashover Primary School, are seven-year-old Phoebe Hanauer, of Ashover, and six-year-old Laurie Kelly, of Matlock,
The pair, who were chosen at the annual parish party, will be crowned in a ceremony outside the Bassett Rooms on May Day and will then play a high profile role in the village parade.
Later in the year, they will also take part in a special celebration being organised in Ashover to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
As the new King and Queen prepared for their Royal duties this week, though, Phoebe and Laurie seized the opportunity to take a closer look at some of the eye-catching props used in the village pantomime.
Both King and Queen will have an entourage of attendants to assist them in their duties. Phoebe’s attendants will be May Phelan, Lucy Evans, Isabel Smith, Madeleine Kelly, Gemma Martin, William Johnson and Marcus Phelan. Laurie’s will be Theo Bell, Senan Hussain, Hanna Utting, Lucy Johnson, Mia Parsons, Naomi Bell and Millie Smith.
