matlock’s long-awaited new toilet block is set to open in time for the Victorian Market– and the Mercury was given a sneak preview.
After months of delays, the opening of the £200,000 project will prove to be a welcome relief.
The delay in building the facilities was due to a hold-up from the Environment Agency who had concerns about flooding issues.
Construction company Johnson Group is set to hand over the block tomorrow.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Dales District Council said: “We’re delighted the new toilet block in our Hall Leys Park is on schedule to open in time for the Victorian Market, which is an important event for the town. The new facilities are vastly superior to those formerly on the same site in the park and a response to what local people told us was needed in the heart of Matlock.”
