Number of recycling sites could be reduced

Council bosses are deciding today whether to reduce the number of old–style recycling sites in the Dales.

Following the successful expansion of the household recycling scheme by Derbyshire Dales District Council a year ago, there has been an increase of 1,106 tonnes of household waste recycled or composted.

The district council’s environment committee will consider today a request from H W Martin of Blackwell – which is contracted to manage the old recycle sites to which people take their waste – in a bid to reduce the number of the old–style ‘bring’ sites in the Dales from 98 to 33 and enable the company operate a reduced service at no cost to the council.
