Open day for apprentices

YOUNG people from Matlock interested in learning more about apprenticeships are being invited to a special open day.

Derbyshire Dales District Council and Derbyshire County Council have teamed up to hold an apprenticeship event at the Ritz Adult Education Centre, Matlock, on Wednesday 25 July.

The event will run from 1.00pm to 4.30pm and is open to all.

Organisers are particularly keen to get 16-24 year olds along who are interested in an apprenticeship, but have yet to sign up. Parents and family members are also very welcome to attend.

Local training providers involved in providing apprenticeships, including the University of Derby College Buxton and Chesterfield College will be there to promote their opportunities.

Prospective apprentices will also hear from employers and a young apprentice currently working for Derbyshire Dales District Council on why apprenticeships are a good route to a long term career.

The Adult Community Education service will be on hand to register those attending on the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) website Connexions will be there also to provide careers advice and guidance on how to prepare a CV.

Refreshments will be available on the day and those who wish and are willing to share their experiences will be entered into a prize draw.

Funding for the event has been provided by Derbyshire Dales District Council, whose Leader, Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said: “An apprenticeship enables young people to learn on the job and gain qualifications while earning a wage.

“Economic development is now one of the top two priorities for the District Council and events such as this help to create jobs by matching up ‘would be’ apprentices with training organisations and employers who have vacancies available locally.”
