Opening date revealed for Wirksworth cinema

It’s lights, camera, action in Wirksworth at the moment as the town’s new cinema rolls towards completion.

Husband and wife developers Paul Carr and Esther Patterson have revealed the new traditionally-styled cinema will open to the public on July 4 – the same day as Esther’s birthday.

After planning permission was granted earlier this month, builders have been frantically developing what will be the Dales’ only cinema.

Paul said: “We are nervous, as this is a totally new venture for us, but we’re confident that we’ll hit the ground running.

“We’ve had so much support from people in the town who are as excited as we are for the cinema to be finished.”

The cinema, which is located in North End, will be able to accommodate 52 people and offers a range of seating – including refurbished 1950’s cinema seats, plush arm chairs and even sofa’s.

There will be ten screenings per weeks – showing current blockbuster’s, classics, documentary’s and more – as well as other events, which will be revealed in due course.

The cinema will be offering cocktails, wine and bottled beer to visitors as well as tapas-style menu.

Paul said: “It will be a completely different experience to your big multiplex cinemas. It’s about coming down with friends, having food, drinks and a chat to begin with and then relaxing at the end and discussing what you’ve watched with friends – a full evening’s entertainment, in other words.”
