HRH The Duke of Gloucester is to attend the Opera Gala at the 2013 Buxton Festival.
The Gala on Sunday July 7 will feature two of the country’s most sought-after singers, celebrated soprano Claire Rutter and acclaimed baritone Stephen Gadd.
Orchestral music, arias and scenes from the much-loved operas of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Rossini will be performed, and the singers will be joined by the Northern Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Barlow.
Rutter received outstanding reviews for her performance in English National Opera’s new production of Lucrezia Borgia, and for ENO she has also sung Donna Anna Don Giovanni, the title roles in Tosca and Aida, Amelia Un ballo in maschera, Elvira Ernani, Gilda Rigoletto and Violetta La traviata.
Gadd’s roles have included Escamillo Carmen for Welsh National Opera; Balstrode Peter Grimes for the Opéras de Montpellier; Valentin Faust for the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg; the title role in Don Giovanni for Opéra de Metz and Opéra de Rennes; Count Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro for the Salzburg Festival tour to Japan. Last year he played Storch in Intermezzo at the Festival.
