FOOTY BLOGGER: Match Of The Day-style analysis for Matlock Town

It was just one of those days for Matlock where they could have been three up in the first half hour, with every chance drawing moans of agony from the travelling supporters.

It was Ferriby who would take the lead against the run of play, after the ball fell to Bradshaw in the area and he tucked it away, just inches from the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Jon Kennedy.

‘Typical!’ was the response of many supporters around me. Yet again Matlock had failed to take their chances and it had cost us a goal at the break.

The second half was much of the same, with new signing Oscar Radford having to go off with a neck injury and Matlock’s Adam Yates giving away a penalty which was duly tucked by Ferriby’s Kendall.

To me it looked a very soft one but the home support was over the moon.

The move and indeed finish of the match would come from Matlock. Massiah McDonald proved he has the skills to pay the bills by bamboozling the Ferriby defence with silky moves that included a Zidane-esque turn into the area to find Joe Leesley who had just come on and would find the goal with one of his first touches.

With time ticking, Matlock had a few more chances, including McDonald hitting a shot from the edge of the area that looked destined for the goal, only for it to be pushed away by an out stretched Ferriby goalkeeper.

Shortly after, the ref would blow the whistle to the relief of the home supporters.

The result was judged to be disappointing on the ride home, which quickly became Match Of The Day style analysis.

‘Unlucky’ was the general consensus but to hold a team judged to be on the up given a rumoured money man who I can only guess was the bloke with the nice Jaguar and pin-striped suit, who parked his pride and joy in front of the toilets in what I perceived as a schoolboy, error given it was only a few feet from the pitch. Luckily for him, it would not be struck by a ball.

Other than the result it was another enjoyable day out. Beautiful weather for it and North Ferriby is rather a nice place to go to with trains running behind one of the sides to the delight of Ian’s son who is a train fanatic and behind another stand is a view of the Humber Bridge, so I’d highly advise making a trip if you ever find yourself up that way.
