Campaigners will be rallying support for Darley Birth Centre with an event in the town’s park.

Matlock Hospitals League of Friends will be at Park Head in Hall Leys tomorrow and on Saturday.

Members will be encouraging people to fill in questionnaires and to give their views on the possible closure of the midwife-led unit in Darley Dale.

Colourful Don’t Ditch Darley bugs and balloons will also be handed out to people.

The event will take place from 10am to 5pm.

Alice Lockett, of the League, said: “We would like to get as many people as possible to come along to chat with us about their views. Will will help people fill in questionnaires and post them.”

In May, the NHS began reviewing the future of Darley Birth Centre after it revealed only 100 women a year used the centre.
