PLANS are in place to organise a party in the park to help mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this summer.
A working group has been set up through Matlock Town Council to discuss ideas for the celebration in the first weekend in June, which has been declared a bank holiday.
And the main suggestion has been to stage an open event in Hall Leys Park on the afternoon of Monday June 4.
They would encourage families and friends to gather at the picturesque setting for a large picnic, which people would be asked to bring their own refreshments. There are hopes of bringing in children’s fairground rides, have a fancy dress competition for youngsters and a bonnet competition for the ladies.
Chair of the group, Cllr David Barker said: “We would not want it to be commercial, it’s purely home-grown and a nice event that people could enjoy together with their friends and families.”
