YOUNG pupils have been gearing up for the summer’s Olympic Games by passing on their own flame.
The team of four pupils from Bakewell Methodist Junior School were joined by four adult supervisors and ran the 3.5 miles to Pilsley School to pass on the Lady Manners Olympic torch.
“We have some very keen runners amongst the pupils and staff,” said headteacher of Bakewell Methodist School, Sarah Owens.
“The idea of running with the torch was suggested by one of the children.
“It was a fantastic sporting challenge in the true Olympic spirit!”
The activity is part of an Olympic project run by Lady Manners School, who challenged primary school pupils to design a torch to mark the upcoming games.
It was then decided that the seven schools who had taken part would pass the newly-designed torch between themselves.
