The Hathersage and Tideswell Safer Neighbourhood Team have been working alongside qualified bowls coaches, June and Vic Poke, to encourage children to take part in the sport as part of an intergenerational project.

PCSO Anthony Boswell visited Grindleford Primary School alongside June and Vic from the Bradwell Bowls Club to mark the start of the new sports initiative, when he spoke to 72 children, aged four to 11–years–old about the importance of staying safe as the darker nights draw in, including topics of stranger danger and road safety awareness.

Afterwards, the children were then taught how to play the game of Crown Green bowls.

PCSO Boswell said: “This project is all about encouraging the kids to try something new and take part in a sport that they wouldn’t necessarily try.”
