A Chesterfield radio station is riding the waves of success.

Chesterfield Radio – which only launched three months ago – has won the title of ‘Best Community Radio Broadcasters’ in the East Midlands for 2020-21 in the SME News Midlands Enterprise Awards.

Paul Wragsdale, station director, said: “I think it demonstrates what the whole team have done to get us to where we are.

“We shared on our Facebook page that we are now (sourced from MyTuner Radio) the most listened to station across the Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire region and this award confirms our peers are also watching what we’re doing.

“This award is also thanks to our listeners – without whom none of this would be working now – and we can’t thank them enough.”

He added: “We’re all volunteers at the station and don’t get paid for our work but that doesn’t mean we don’t work hard for the communities we serve.

“We know how important radio can be to some people – a lifeline even for those in a lonely environment due to the current lockdown restrictions – but we want everyone to know that we are here for them and we want to help get them through this with great music a bit of light-hearted chat throughout the day.”

Sean Goldsmith, programme director, added: “I’m just delighted all the hard work from everyone has been recognised – and this is only the beginning.”
