Dales leisure centres are ready to reopen when Covid rules relax
Gym goers and keep fit enthusiasts will finally be able to get back into their exercise regimes next week when leisure centres in Matlock and the surrounding area reopen with the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
The next step on the Government’s roadmap, which was confirmed as going ahead at the weekend, allows for gyms to throw open their doors from Monday, April 12 along with pubs and restaurants serving outside, non-essential shops and hairdressers.
That will allow Arc Leisure in Bakewell Road, Matlock – along with Wirksworth Leisure Centre and Bakewell Pool – to welcome back customers.
The leisure centres are operated by Freedom Leisure in partnership with Derbyshire Dales District Council.
A spokesman for Freedom Leisure said: “We are so grateful to our customers for their patience, support and loyalty once again during the closure.
“When we reopen on Monday, April 12 most activities will be available including gym, swimming, racket sports and children’s swimming lessons. As per the government guidelines group exercise classes will not be available straightaway but they should recommence in May.
“With winter out of the way it is time to start getting active ready to make the most of summer 2021, which we all hope will be very different from last year. Where better to do that than your local freedom leisure centre, where you can confidently exercise with others in a fun, motivating and Covid safe environment.”
Ash Watts, d irector of c ommunity and environmental services at Derbyshire Dales District Council said: “We are very much looking forward to opening the doors and finally being able to welcome local residents back to our leisure centres”.
Ivan Horsfall Turner, managing d irector of Freedom Leisure, said: ”We look forward to seeing everyone using their local leisure centre again, and the teams can’t wait to get back to providing our local communities with opportunities for exercise, activity and the chance to socialise safely.”
