After the soap he moved to the US and is not thought to have returned to the UK often.

Buswell started his acting career by appearing in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and on stage in plays.

After leaving Britain, he worked as a croupier in Las Vegas for 13 years before becoming the manager of a casino.

He also had a job as a mortgage broker before making a cameo appearance as Ray in the one-off special Viva Las Vegas in 1997.

In 2005 he returned to Coronation Street, this time for a six-week run.

In 2014, Buswell was involved in a child sex probe over allegations he assaulted a 12-year-old girl in his dressing room back in the 1960s.

It was reported at the time that police wrote to him to request an interview - but the actor refused to return to the UK.

Buswell denied the claims saying they were "not true" and that he never met the female fan.
