The two mountain rescue teams were called to the incident at 3.10pm yesterday (Saturday, April 3).

A post on the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page said: “Mam Tor, with its broken road, is a well-known walking location at the head of the beautiful Hope Valley.

"The path traversing the bottom of Mam Tor gives a good link up to Hollins Cross, providing a short and popular walk around the hill. The path crosses a few brooks where the ground can be boggy, uneven and unstable.

Both Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Edale Mountain Rescue Team attended the incident

"While out walking the casualty had attempted to jump across one of these boggy streams and had landed awkwardly sustaining a serious lower leg injury.

“A 999 call was made to Derbyshire Constabulary requesting help and the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation Duty Controller called out both Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams, as the latter was already providing assistance to another casualty on nearby Win Hill.

“Members of both teams arrived at the Mam Farm rendezvous point and climbed the path to Hollins Cross to assist the fallen walker. After receiving much needed medical care and pain relief the casualty was placed onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carried back down to the broken road, where an East Midlands Ambulance Service was waiting to continue the journey to hospital and further treatment.

"Other members of the party were then able to walk back to their car further down the road.

“Equipment was then cleaned as per our Covid-19 protocols and the vehicles returned to their respective bases.

“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and hope the group can return soon to enjoy the views from Mam Tor.

“As team members arrived at this incident, a further callout occurred leading to the deployment of the Buxton drone team to assist with incident 17 on Rushup Edge.”
