“However, I have been truly inspired by the fortitude and resilience of the Muslim community in making this time as special as it always has been and for the way these temporary restrictions continue to be received.

“Many are using the power of technology to share Ramadan’s precious moments and connect with their families and loved ones, while mosques are continuing to engage the community and worshippers with live-streaming facilities.

“I understand how difficult it is and the sacrifices being made and I would like to wholeheartedly thank the Muslim community here in Derbyshire for their patience and adaptability during this immensely challenging time.

“Many Muslims will find great comfort from their faith during the current health crisis.

“Covid-19 has had a tremendous impact on all communities in Derbyshire and the need to stay connected for those living alone or at great distance from their families is all the more important.

“I’m proud of the way the Muslim community has responded to these challenges while continuing to protect our NHS and lives by honouring the stay at home guidance.

“I wish you a safe and blessed Ramadan Mubarak.”
