Police have repeated the government’s ‘stay at home’ message after a Derbyshire beauty spot was once again inundated with visitors over the weekend despite lockdown.

Matlock, Cromford, Wirksworth and Darley Dale Police SNT said they were aware of an ‘increased number of visitors’ flouting coronavirus restrictions at Matlock Bath on Saturday (February 27).

They said: “We are in lockdown. Please remember, you MUST stay home unless you have a reasonable excuse to be out."

So far, Derbyshire Police have issued thousands of pounds worth of fines for Covid-19 travel breaches.

It’s nothing new for fed up residents, who have had to contend with visitors from all over the country throughout the pandemic despite non-essential travel being banned.

Glen Thompson: “Sometimes wish you would board the buses. Folk coming in from everywhere. Totally non-essential travel.”

Lisa Togher said: “There was loads in Matlock Bath today. Definitely no lockdown there, must’ve been at least 50 bikes there when I went through.”
