Sarah Dines MP was joined by Nigel Huddleston MP, the parliamentary under-secretary of state for sport, heritage and tourism at the department for digital, culture, media and sport.

Sarah Dines MP said: “There is no denying that this pandemic has been incredibly difficult for our area as so much of our local industry relies on tourism. We have some incredible and longstanding tourist destinations in Derbyshire Dales, with The Heights of Abraham being one of the most famous.

"I was very impressed to see the comprehensive measures that the owner Andrew Pugh has taken to make sure that the venue is Covid compliant and so that guests can enjoy the attraction in a safe way.

" We visited the Cable Car station and were given an excellent tour by the resident engineer and were treated to a fantastic view from the top of the ride.

“The visit was a brilliant opportunity for the owners Andrew, Vanessa and Rupert Pugh to discuss the tourism industry with the Minister and I sincerely thank the family and the team at the Heights of Abraham for their professionalism and hospitality.”

Nigel Huddleston said: “ It was hugely heartening to see how the beautiful Peak District and Dales are picking up in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, and tourist attractions are working so very hard to get their businesses back on track.

" I had the chance to visit the stunning Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath and also the wonderful Chatsworth House, home of the Duke of Devonshire, and both places impressed me with the efforts they have gone to in order to ensure that the venues are Covid-safe, and are welcoming tourists back with open arms.

"We are fortunate to have so much to offer tourists in the UK, with outstanding scenery and world-class heritage and tourism attractions to rival anywhere in the world. I would encourage anyone looking for a few days away to consider Derbyshire which has so very much to offer visitors.”

Andrew Pugh said: “Everyone at the Heights of Abraham was delighted to welcome the Minister, Nigel Huddleston, and local MP, Sarah Dines.”
