Mystery over future of big building in Chesterfield

In 2017, Chesterfield Borough Council approved a planning application to redevelop the former Martha's Vineyard venue at 3 Corporation Street.

It had been hoped the building would eventually become a bar and restaurant operated by the Hooded Ram Brewing Company – creating 18 jobs.

However, planning permission was approved with a condition that work would begin within three years.

Isle of Man-based Hooded Ram Brewing Company has also said it will be closed for the foreseeable future as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The building is owned by a company called Triward Holdings Ltd, incorporated in the British Virgin Islands.

However, the Derbyshire Times has been unable to reach the company to find out what plans it has for the property – as there are no publicly-available contact details for the firm.

The agent for the 2017 application had not responded to our request for comment at the time of publication.

The council’s HS2 Station Master Plan aims to breathe new life into the Corporation Street area.

It would see the creation of a new public ‘boulevard’ for pedestrians and cyclists leading from the station to Corporation Street

Talking previously about the HS2 Station Master Plan, Councillor Tricia Gilby, council leader, said: “We want to create a vibrant gateway to north Derbyshire and the Peak District, to better connect this key site to our town centre, and to bring unused and underused land back to life for the benefit of local people.”
