Derbyshire County Council has announced an order which will see the speed limit dropped from 40mph to 30mph on Matlock Road.
It marks the end of a two-year campaign by the Matlock Road Neighbourhood Watch Group, who said it was an ‘accident waiting to happen'.

Hide AdChesterfield MP, Toby Perkins, has supported the campaign and has been pressing the council to take action after meeting concerned residents in 2019.
He said: “This is great news and a real relief to the residents along Matlock Road, who have for years being feeling like they are putting their lives at risk whenever they leave their driveways. This will also improve the safety for all road users and pedestrians.”
Residents and campaigners have welcomed the news, though there are still some concerns over where the new 30mph limit should start and end.
Mr Perkins added: “It has often felt over the last few years that the County Council’s approach to road safety has often been reactive rather than proactive. It is always better to look at ways to prevent accidents before they occur, and I hope that this is the start of a different approach by the authority.”

Hide AdSpeaking previously to the Derbyshire Times, resident Roger Jenkinson described Matlock Road as ‘dangerous’.
He said: “It is narrow, with blind bends and people are racing along it.
“Pullling out of driveways can take a long time and feels very risk. It is an accident waiting to happen.”
