Erica Developments Ltd submitted a planning application to Chesterfield Borough Council to knock down the Trumpeter Inn on Harehill Road, Grangewood, and build 12 two-bedroom dormer bungalows at the site.

A communal car park would be created near the properties.

The council’s planning committee gave conditional permission for the application during a virtual meeting on Monday.

In 2015, permission was granted to redevelop the Trumpeter into a new community centre.

Those proposals included a new pub or café-bar and convenience store along with up to four independent retail units.

However, planning documents which were considered by councillors at the meeting said the plans were dropped as an ‘anchor tenant’ could not be found meaning ‘the site would not be viable and therefore would be in serious danger of failing financially’.
