The scheme, called Beat the Street, will see 108 boxes installed in the borough later this month so families can track their journeys and earn points – with prizes up for grabs.
A Chesterfield Borough Council spokesperson said more than 30 schools are joining the initiative.

Hide AdThe spokesperson explained: “Children and adults taking part can earn points by tapping their card or fob on one of the boxes to register they have been at that location. They must then move to another box to complete the journey.
“Multiple boxes can be tapped within one journey. The more boxes they tap, the more points they’ll earn for their school team.
“Schools topping the points leader board can win sports equipment, and individuals taking part can win random ‘tap prizes’ too.”
