Fans paid their last respects to legendary former Chesterfield manager John Duncan today.

The cortege started its procession from Matlock, stopping at St Margaret’s Drive, the site of the old Saltergate ground.

It then proceeded to the Technique Stadium and circled the ground to the applause of fans before heading onto the Crooked Spire Church.

The family said they would like to thank everyone at Chesterfield Football Cub for their overwhelming support and help during this difficult time. They would also like to give a massive thank-you to all the supporters of Chesterfield FC for the amazing and heartfelt tribute on Saturday, it meant the world to them.

John Duncan is considered to be Town’s best ever manager after two spells at the club, including winning promotion from the Fourth Division twice, and leading them to a memorable run to the FA Cup semi-final in 1997.

Following his death last month at the age of 73, Sir Alex Ferguson was among leading names in the world of football who paid tribute to him. John’s three daughters said the much-loved former Chesterfield manager will ‘forever be in our hearts.’

Louise, Marie and Evette, added: "We are totally overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and affection towards our dad. The heartfelt tributes have brought us immense comfort."
