The organising school was Castle View Primary and refreshments were provided by members of their Parent Teacher Association.

The tournament officials were all from the Highfields School sports leaders scheme and they did a fantastic job under the stewardship of Highfield’s Jayne Allen.

This year’s event marked a first, with the inaugural Girl’s Bunting Cup.

It was a closely contested affair between Darley Churchtown, Lea, St Giles, All Saint’s and Castle View, with Lea Primary eventually running out as winners.

In the mixed tournament, the schools were grouped according to size. Again these groups were closely fought and the eventual group winners were Bonsall, Tansley and Darley Dale. Each of these teams were winners of the Bunting Cup for their section.

These teams qualified for the overall tournament champion’s trophy and were joined by All Saint’s who qualified as the highest finishing runner-up. In this knock-out section, Bonsall and Tansley made it through to the final.

In the final the teams were locked at 0-0 after normal time and the match went to a thrilling penalty shoot out..... a nerve jangling experience for players and supporters alike! The teams matched each other penalty for penalty until the 7th kicks when Tansley Primary eventually came up winners 7-6.

The champions trophy was presented by Castle View’s new headteacher Mrs Clare Peat.
