Picnic in pews is a Royal treat

Revellers are being invited to mark the Royal Wedding in style – with a picnic in church.

Families in Ashover are being invited to watch the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on a large screen in All Saints Church.

And they are being encouraged to bring along their own wedding feast to eat while they watch the royal couple tie the knot – including Champagne to toast the pair with.

The picnic in the pews has been organised by Ashover mums Kate Phelan, Claire Harrison and Lindsay Stevens

The event has been made possible by television dealers Farmers of Matlock, who donated a special aerial which has been placed high on the scaffolding around the tower to boost reception in the church.

Kate Phelan said: “We’re very grateful to Farmers and to the church for making the building available.

“We’re asking people to bring their own bubbly and picnic items and to watch the wedding while sharing a meal.

“It promises to be a really memorable occasion.”

The wedding will be screened live from 10am. Entry is free but donations are invited to cover costs.
