PICTURES: Ballet school dancers dazzle during Peak performance

Audiences didnt have to look too hard to find the stars of a routine inspired by the Wheres Wally books.

A dazzling troupe of young performers from the Felicity White School of Dance captivated audiences over a four-night run at Bakewell’s newly-refurbished town hall.

More than 70 dancers, aged between 4 and 18, took to the stage with ballet, tap, modern dance and musical theatre routines.

Billed as Once Upon A Time, each sequence reimagined popular children’s stories such as 101 Dalmatians, the Wizard of Oz, Matilda and Alice in Wonderland.

Before they tackled Swan Lake, this group took on a routine based on Beatrix Potters Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Principal Philippa Matkin praised the pupils’ performance, saying: “My teaching colleagues, the students and I all worked really hard to make the show a success and I feel very proud. The performances were excellent and enjoyed by all.”

It was a big night for Philippa too, having only recently taken over the school from founder Felicity White.

Felicity was there to see her proud legacy and said: “In the last 37 years I’ve taught hundreds of children, often several generations of the same family, but I felt the time was right to hand over. Philippa has the drive and energy to keep it going for, dare I say, another 37 years.”

A raffle held during the shows raised £300 for Macmillan and Cavendish Cancer Care in Sheffield.
