A plea to find the driver who knocked a cyclist off his bike in a “malicious” road rage attack has been shared almost 12,500 times online.

Mark Canning said he was deliberately run over by a green Land Rover on the A6 at Whatstandwell, breaking his hand and causing hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage to his bike.

A shock picture showing Mark in hospital with his injuries along with an appeal for information has been circulated around the social networking site Facebook 12,300 times.

Mark, of Pinxton, said: “The driver took objection to me shaking my head at him in his mirror after he pulled out in front of me, just before Whatstandwell Bridge, causing me to break heavily to avoid hitting him.

“After twice getting out of the car to run at me across the road he decided to use the vehicle to hit me rather than his fists.”

Mark’s wife, Elise, who posted the plea on Facebook, said: “This road rage was a deliberate and malicious attack.

“The man who did this was not going to stop until he did my husband damage.”

Police are investigating the incident, which happened at about 11.30am on Sunday, August 11. Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.
