Police on the lookout for watchful neighbours in Matlock

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to help set up a new neighbourhood watch scheme.

Police in the Matlock area are encouraging people to take part in the scheme for their street.

Neighbourhood Watch is a nationally recognised initiative which aims to help people protect themselves and their properties and to help reduce fear of becoming a victim of crime through improved home security and greater vigilance.

Police officers support and work closely with groups to help create safer communities.

There are currently many active successful schemes throughout Derbyshire including in Darley Dale and in Bakewell.

PCSO Laura Coxhead of the Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The Matlock area continues to be a very safe place to live, but everyone has a part to play in helping us to reduce crime even further and joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme is one of these ways.

“Getting involved in the initiative has many benefits from helping to prevent and detect crime, providing reassurance creating a strong community spirit and possibly even reducing the cost of home insurance in your neighbourhood.”
