An investigation has been launched into a suspected arson attack at a sweet factory in Bakewell.
The fire broke out at the sweet franchise and wholesale business, Sugacane Ltd, on Station Road Industrial Estate, at about 3am on Tuesday, May 17.
Firefighters were called out from Bakewell, Matlock, Hathersage, Buxton, Ilkeston and Ripley.
A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “There were about 30 firefighters tackling this blaze at its height using a specialist high volume water pump and the road was closed to traffic.”
Crews also used an aerial ladder platform to battle the blaze at the two-storey building.
The water board was also informed to increase water pressure in the area to help extinguish the flames.
The Monsal Trail was closed to cyclists and walkers at around 4.30am and the electricity board, gas board and Environment Agency were also alerted as a precaution.
Derbyshire police officers were also in attendance to help keep the area safe. Firefighters were still damping down the area on Tuesday evening.
Police confirmed yesterday an investigation into a suspected arson attack was being carried out but they were yet unable to establish a cause.
Investigating officer Jo Brett, of Matlock CID said: “The initial indication suggested it was a suspected arson attack but more tests have been carried out and they have been inconclusive to date. More investigations are being carried out.”
