Police reveal name of 64-year-old pedestrian who died after Tideswell crash

Police have this morning revealed the name of a 64-year-old man who died following a collision with a van in a Peak District village.

The crash happened on Cherry Tree Square, Tideswell, at about 2.15pm on Thursday.

It involved a Yodel delivery van and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Richard Turner, of Fountain Street, Tideswell, was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

A spokesman for Yodel said: “Yodel takes the safety of the public and its workers extremely seriously.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the gentleman fatally injured in this tragic incident.

“A police investigation is ongoing, in which we are assisting, and therefore it is inappropriate for us to comment further at this stage.”

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said a file is currently being prepared for the coroner.

Mr Turner’s inquest is due to open in Chesterfield next week.

Residents in Tideswell have told of their shock at the news.

One man, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s very sad news.

“There’s a lot of shock in the community – you don’t expect this type of thing to happen.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to ring Derbyshire police on 101, quoting incident number 392.
